Soft, lightly sweet fritters made with simple ingredients.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup self-raising flour (helps prevent oily fritters)
- ½ medium butternut, peeled and cubed
- Pinch of salt
- ¼ cup sugar (optional)
- Milk, as needed
- Oil, for frying
Method
- Steam the butternut until fully cooked and very soft.
- Mash the butternut in a bowl until smooth.
- Add the all-purpose flour, self-raising flour, salt, and sugar (if using). Mix well.
- Gradually add milk until a thick batter forms.
- Heat oil in a pot over medium heat.
- Spoon batter into the hot oil and fry until the fritter floats to the top and is golden brown on both sides.
- Remove and drain on paper towel. Serve warm.
Notes
- Sugar is optional and can be omitted for babies.
- Ensure fritters are cooled and cut appropriately for toddlers before serving
